YAABA FUNK @ Big Chill House : FFTang FFTsng on Fri 13th Jan FREE

brokenbeats big band Yaaba Funk and live electronics, scratching and surf-rock from the balkan/swing quintet Gypsy Hill. Also on the line-up will be a whole host of continent-hopping DJs mixing global rhythms with heavy basslines, a decks/drums live jam from the FFTANG! FFTANG! Sound Sistema and African, Caribbean & South American vibes from the first lady of future tropical, Marsali.

Yaaba Funk
A floor-filling extravaganza combining the tightest rhythm section this side of Accra, fat analogue basslines, blazing horns, sparkling African and gritty rock guitars. One of London's best-loved live bands, Yaaba Funk play barnstorming Afro Funk. Their debut album "Afrobeast", was released in 2010 on their own Yaabaphone imprint with the help of Stern's Records. In early 2011 the band performed at the Sauti Za Busara festival in Zanzibar (with support from the PRS for Music Foundation) and recently delivered a storming set in support of Seun Kuti and the Egypt 80. Yaaba Funk are currently putting the finishing touches to their as yet untitled second lp, which will be released in 2012.

Gypsy Hill
In Gypsy Hill DJ Kobayashi and Herbert Newbert bring together the balls and the brass from the Balkans, surf-rock Mediterranean guitar lines, Arabic & Jewish melodies, massive bass-lines and a whole heap of electronics, scratching and beats. Starting out as a producer duo, the Gypsy Hill live band soon grew to a 7 piece beats and brass extravaganza - the band have a fast-growing reputation for their high energy shows with big screen visuals and dancers also thrown into the mix. They've played at some of the UK’s biggest summer festivals such as Glastonbury, Guardian’s Hay Festival, The Big Chill, Reading/Leeds and Bestival and are currently working on their debut album. www.myspace.com/gypsyhill

Just a quick update re NEW YEAR's EVE WHERE DJ DEBBIE (OUTERGLOBE) PLAYED!

Had a ball - I LOVE DJAYING and would love to do more this year - let me - DJ Debbie - know if you;d like a fiesty global vibes mix - for chill out, lounge, late or dancefloor .... There will be some mixes soon at my Outerglobe Mixcloud site .... Jally Kebba Susso & Manding Suba + Minn Diarabi played brilliantly with a great interlude from Bumi Thomas - and other DJs also played - Oli, Ada & AJ especially. Now Open the Gate is closed as a venue however there will be more happenings in their name.    UP!!!

Debbie Golt aka DJ Debbie presents a half hour special as part of the global Radio 1812 initiative joining 75
radio stations and organisations worldwide to celebrate UN International Migrants' Day. The show will be simulcast on www.londonlinkradio.net and then archived on www.radio1812.net which is a fascinating, informative and proactive site.

Debbie is joined by Anna Nguyen and Greg Bartlett of Silent Shout Theatre discussing their play 'A Dream from a Bombshell' which weaves together the lives of 3 women seeking a better life in England after growing up in war torn Vietnam and Anna's own Vietnamese heritage. And by musician and activist Lilas La Fleur of Congolese heritage whose new CD - Girlfriend is released to support Women's Aid and Objectif Congo - giving support to women leaving violent situations in UK and raising awareness of women's situation in the Congo.
