Funmi Olawumi, the leader of the Yoruba Women Choir, steps out with songs from her solo CD “Funmi Ti De” (JNR), a brilliant record that is driven by her own unique Faaji rhythms that emerged from the Nigerian party scene where hi-life, afobeat, juju and fuji rhythms are mixed together into one glories funky sound. Funmi Olawumi calls her music “Faaji Music” meaning “good time” in Yoruba and this is what she creates with her hand-picked 10-piece band powered by her producer and bassist Femi Sofela.

Children in a Zambian village were given cameras to show their lives through their own eyes - revealing that whilst they may not have many material goods their lives are not necessarily unhappy, giving a very refreshing new and joyous view of African day to day life.

Bona Shin and Tina Attoh of Theatre for All join Debbie Golt  to talk about how the children's pictures enabled dreams to be shared and the process of involving children here in selecting photos for a recent exhibition. And what next?! "

As Songlines magazine says  the " ten-piece band from the Barbes district of Paris are at the top of their game because they can dabble in a dozen different styles, yet still have their own distinct sound which is recognisable after only a few bars. Having been fairly quiet for almost ten years, they returned in 2008 with the confident and high-spirited Alik and their new album Rendezvous Barbes consolidates that return with its jaunty, agreeably rough-round the edge rowdiness. Long may they continue to mix Middle Eastern and African grooves with Parisian panache and bravado. It's rare for music to be this fun without for one moment becoming superficial. Fans of both Rachid Taha and Les Negresses Vertes should investigate."
