In Honour of Maya - Butterfly Healing - Poetry and Music Evening

SATURDAY 16th NOVEMBER 7.30 - 11.00pm

@ THE POETRY CAFE,

22 Betterton Street, Covent Garden,

London WC2H 9BX

£6/£5

A magical evening of poetry, spoken word and acoustic music - if it is anything like the music one recently everyone will feel restored and healed and ready to enjoy life's sweetness anew. Presented by Farrago Poetry. To honour the life of Maya Bitendi Golt who died aged just 24 on 21st September, peacefully in sleep, after the cancer she was dealing with just got too much. Maya loved poetry and wrote some wonderful pieces, some of which will be be heard on this extra special evening. She is extra special herself as she is my daughter - so very loved and so very missed and I am also honoured that such fine artists are willing to take part  and look forward to welcoming so many of you there!

Who's taking part? A feast of wonderful artists - Najma Akhtar (bringing Indian and English folk music closer); Errol McGlashen - mega Slam champion with a true people's touch; Maurice One Jah - deep voiced Ibo passion and truths with intuitive guitar; Torera Mpedzisi - Zimbabwean spiritual healing with mbira and voice; Ursula Troche - poetry that finds a beautiful way to be political and very personal; Tanya Loretta Dee - a young poet and actress who will read her own and Maya's poems (as well Errol); Sue Hamblen - many times Welsh Slam champion with a wickedly humourous way with words; possibly Debbie Golt with a couple of poems and Farrago Poetry host himself John Paul O'Neill - a very fine poet in his own right!

There may even be an open mic opportunity too ...

There is a cafe and bar throughout with vegetarian snacks and cakes and hot and cold soft and alcoholic drinks.

COME! JOIN THE MERRY EVENING! ENJOY!

In Honour of Maya - Butterfly Healing is to honour the life of a wonderful young woman - so creative, so musical so intelligent and still with us is beautiful spirit. Maya Nsansi Amy Golt - the daughter of Debbie Golt aka Outerglobe DJ Debbie and Nsimba Foggis - the Taxi Pata Pata Soukous Maestro - would have been 25 this Christmas. Sadly Maya went in her sleep on 21 September, she died peacefully that morning. Butterfly Healing recogniseses Maya's determination to never give up. Through her own and her family's steadfastness a huge barrier was broken and IV Vitamin C as a treatment for cancer was allowed in an NHS setting for the first time.

Maya knew and  loved music of every kind especially African and  the global sound of London. So we honour Maya's life and give solace and support to her family with some of the finest live music and DJ selections in the capital! As the event goes to press a veritable festival of amazing artists from all over are joining the line up creating a feast of a night , an essential experience. What's more The Forge is open til 3.30am with a late license and delicious food can be ordered as well!

DJ Debbie makes a huge difference to music and musicians here - with radio broadcasts (African Essence) giving airplay and interviews to many many, with promotion and publicity support and wise advice; She is also chair of Women in Music UK and a champion of women in all aspects fo music making. Nsimba Foggis and Taxi Pata Pata were the first UK African artists to have a live Radio 1 session and have fired up festivals UK wide and internationally over the years; Nsimba is a highly respected community leader uniting musicians from all directions and making a huge difference from his West London base and is something of a hero to younger Congolese musicians.

The Forge music venue is a beautiful purpose built venue with an eco wall & solar panels where music can be heard & experienced as a real pleasure. It’s a community venture with environmental matters at its heart. Dining bookings on 020 7383 7808.
